AISHA

‘Every year 15 million girls are married as children... 28 girls every minute, 1 every 2 seconds’

‘AISHA’ is about an underage girl that was forced into marriage with a man triple her age. She is bound to domestic duty, denied every human right, and forced to submit to any sexual act her husband wishes to bestow upon her.  How will she continue to cope?

“Arms pinned down at each corner of this crux – a handmaid crucified by the hands of lust”- Aisha

Written, and Directed by AJ

AISHA was first performed at the Hen and Chickens Theatre, London, 2017.

  • View from the Cheap Seat "it’s well written and engrossing"..
  • Camden New Journal “It is this narrative voice in AILIA theatre company’s production, written, directed and produced by “AJ” that remains the most intriguing throughout”..
  • Afridiziak “By not sugarcoating the reality of underage child brides – by presenting the topic in a clear, honest, and technically strong way – the writer/director, AJ, has done his job”..
  • View from the Cheap Seat “But if you think this is an “issue play”, unsubtly dishing up a series of stock characters and wooden exchanges, it isn’t. It is about issues, lots of them, but it’s well written and engrossing, and even manages to be funny in parts”..
